BIKE RIDES CUE SHEETS & MAPS

MARTHA'S VINEYARD

In the late Spring of 1992, we packed up the pick-up with all our toys: bikes, canoe and camping gear and boarded the ferry to Martha's Vineyard for a week's vacation of biking and camping. We stayed at Well's Campgrounds in Oak Bluffs and had a great site. At the end of our stay, we decided to give ourselves a treat and booked into the Duck Inn--a fabulous B&B on Gay Head. Since it was still off season, we were able to negotiate an affordable price. We certainly got our money's worth on food and hospitality! We had a great time on this island and recommend going off-season if you can. It can get pretty crowded otherwise. There are lots of bike paths and plenty of roads to explore, but keep your eye on the rollerbladers and mopeds.

CAPE COD

There are some wonderful bike trails in Provincetown (the farthest most town on the Cape) and the Rail Trail runs throughout a good portion of the Cape, plus there's the Canal Ride which goes on both sides of the Bourne bridge. For more information on these rides, contact local bike shops. Hereike shops. Here are a few rides that are somewhat off the beaten path. So pack a bathing suit and towel and hit the road!

Truro: Looney Dunes

Truro is Provincetown's neighbor. The beaches are surpurb and the sights from some of the high hills are worth the pedaling. This ride takes you up to a lighthouse, around the dunes on both coastlines.

Wellfleet: The Oyster Hunt

Since Wellfleet is famous for its delicious oysters, we decided to go on an oyster hunt to find the best oysters in town. Along the way we tasted some great food, found some good beaching, and had one very pleasant bike ride.
